Vince Lucchesi

A life-long, East Bay resident - and hailing from nearly every corner of the Eastern Bay provinces, Vince Lucchesi is a talented, young electric bassist with a couple of decades of musical adventures under his belt. Vince began playing bass with the high school jazz band, and in church. He continued to explore the character of his chosen instrument in the jazz ensembles of college, a number of independent local bands, and in the ultimate learning experience - by taking on bass students. Even at the moment, Vince teaches bass at Better World School of Music, in Hayward.

By his early 20's, Vince's musical path developed an eclectic inflection, when he discovered the musical modal system of the traditional Persian art music of Iran, called Dastgah. He's studied this form for some time, under the guidance of a private teacher. This led him to discover ways electric bass can be used to combine modern and traditional music, into new forms, new expressions of sound and culture.

Vince is heavily influenced by the work of such bassists as Kai Eckhardt and Nurhat Sensesli - both notables in world fusion.

Over the years, Vince has played with various jazz bands, party and top 40 bands, Afro-Cuban, and original bands, including the "Medieval, Super-Power, Prog Metal band, Relic." He also plays bass for productions in theaters all over the Bay Area and has a dozen musicals to his credit, such as RENT, Spring Awakening, and Next to Normal. Some of his favorite work to date has included playing bass on recording projects with Sekander Seraj, a brilliant Afghani guitarist and songwriter.

Vince values the traditional roots of the music and is going to enjoy seeing how his contribution helps it all fall together. He looks forward to exploring this fascinating aspect of world music, and to making his low end contribution to the festival of sound that is Tempest.
